Mark with Travel Air

Hi! I’m Mark Wood, a Dallas/Fort Worth-based photographer with a lifelong obsession for all things mechanical. I suppose you could say I’m cursed (or blessed) with “seeing pictures” everywhere I go—so my Nikon and iPhone are constantly working overtime.

As a lifelong gearhead, I get an unusual amount of joy from capturing the details that give automobiles, motorcycles, and aircraft their character. The sculpted lines of a grille, the chromed badges and adornments, the intricate mechanics of an exposed engine—these are the elements that transform a vehicle into a piece of moving art. I specialize in close-up, fine art photography that transforms these details into something timeless. I have been shooting things with wings and wheels for about 15 years, and get a silly grin every time.

After a long career in the tech industry, I finally made the leap to photography full-time. Transportation Arts is my ongoing experiment in sharing the beauty of manmade machines with others, turning pieces of mechanical artistry into fine art prints for collectors and fellow enthusiasts.

I spend a lot of time at car shows and fly-ins, where passionate owners bring their prized machines to share with the world. I love meeting the people behind the vehicles—hearing their stories, geeking out over restorations, and feeling the energy that fuels this culture. Years ago, I used to drag my kids along with me. Now, my teenage son is the one dragging me to car shows he finds. (Payback?)

When I’m not behind the lens, I’m elbow-deep in my own project: restoring a 1966 VW Beetle. And if I have my way, building an airplane is next on my bucket list.

Thanks for stopping by—I hope my work resonates with you as much as I love creating it!
