The machines that move us – cars, motorcycles, airplanes – inspire passion in people in ways that few other types of machinery can. They have character, they have soul. They are our babies, part of our families. We get together and show them off like proud parents. We collect them. We dedicate entire museums to them.

Almost from the beginning of their history, these machines have been styled into products that sell. These styles change with the times and follow fashion trends, but they always communicate how we see ourselves, and who we aspire to be. Many people modify their vehicles to reflect their own personalities. Often, our vehicles become not just conveyances, but kinetic works of art.

I find myself drawn to the details of vehicles. What gives it its character, its personality? How do the lines, shapes, and adornments catch the light and cast shadows? Is it bright, colorful, and fresh? Or is it weathered and rusty? These details often get lost in the scale of the whole, or fade into the background due to familiarity. I like to elevate them and create a strong focal point for the viewer.

I print my photographs on aluminum panels. Metal is a natural medium for images of vehicles, and the process creates vibrant colors that add additional punch to the scene.
