THIS IS WHAT I NOTICE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A curve. A texture. A pattern. A detail that makes me stop and look again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I photograph automobiles, aircraft, and motorcycles to explore what we can discover when we look closer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I have always been drawn to the details\u2014the things that reveal themselves when we slow down and look more closely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I rarely approach a machine knowing what I want to photograph. I take my time. I walk around it, notice how the light falls across its surfaces, and wait for something to hold my attention\u2014a shape, a texture, a pattern, or perhaps a detail that makes me curious. Only then do I begin to think about the photograph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seen from a different perspective, something familiar can become unfamiliar again. It can raise questions, suggest connections, awaken memories\u2014or simply make us stop and look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My photographs begin with those moments of curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I share them as an invitation to look again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

CIRCLES<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Look closely at a machine and circles are everywhere. Some are dictated by function; others are choices made by designers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interesting question is: why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From wheels and steering wheels to aircraft engines, the same underlying pattern appears in remarkably different places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A manufactured object begins to acquire a biography.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHO IS LOOKING?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m Mark Wood, a photographer, lifelong gearhead, and pilot. Cars and airplanes fascinated me long before I thought to point a camera at them, and that familiarity still shapes the way I photograph them today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m drawn less to the whole machine than to the details that give it character\u2014the choices made by designers and engineers, the marks left by time and use, and the unexpected compositions that appear when we look closely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transportation Arts brings those discoveries together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHY METAL?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The choice to print my photographs on aluminum is deliberate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Metal is a natural companion to images of machines, but the connection goes beyond subject matter. Dye-sublimation printing gives the photographs rich color, deep contrast, and a luminosity that brings out the qualities that first caught my eye\u2014polished surfaces, weathered textures, reflections, subtle details, and light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is a finished piece with a physical presence of its own: photography of machines, made tangible on metal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each work is produced as a limited-edition aluminum print.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
